ESPN Analyst Thinks Nebraska Is A College Football Playoff Contender

first_img However, being a playoff contender seems a little ambitious. Orlovsky is right that Nebraska’s schedule is quite manageable, but in order to make the playoff, they’d have to go at least 11-1 in the regular season. That doesn’t seem likely when you consider the Huskers have to face Ohio State and the Big Ten West is projected to be a highly-competitive division with multiple teams capable of winning it. Not to mention, if Nebraska did win the West, they’d then have to beat the Big Ten East champion in the conference title game.We wouldn’t be surprised if the Huskers contend for the CFP under Frost at some point, just not this fall. Multiple pundits have pegged the Cornhuskers as Big Ten West favorites.ESPN’s Dan Orlovsky is going just a bit further. In an appearance on Get Up! this morning, Orlovsky called Nebraska a potential College Football Playoff contender. Here’s why he feels that way, via 247Sports:“Give me the frosted tips of the Nebraska Cornhuskers, they’re back,” Orlovsky said.“They started 0-6 last year, but in that start, they had four really close games that ended up being losses. Their quarterback, Adrian Martinez, should be on the short list for the Heisman Trophy, 2,400 yards passing, 800 rushing. They got six starters back on defense.“And guys — I don’t find a tough game on their schedule on the road. Ohio State comes to them, Iowa comes to them, Wisconsin comes to them. Folks, Nebraska can be a national College Football Playoff contender.”Now, we’re buying into the Huskers making strides this year. Despite going 4-8 in 2018, Nebraska is ranked 21st in The Spun’s preseason Top 25.last_img read more
