India can dominate world cricket for a long time, says Shane Warne

first_imgLegendary spinner Shane Warne has said India will be able to dominate world cricket, saying he is mighty impressed with the rise of the Asian giants as a global cricketing powerhouse in the recent past.Heaping praise on Virat Kohli’s Team India, Shane Warne also suggested India’s recent dominance is due to some of the top players prioritising Test cricket.”I think India can now have a dominant time in world cricket if they can keep their players on the park, the players stay hungry and value the opportunity and be grateful to play Test cricket,” Shane Warne said while speaking a Rajasthan Royals’ event in Mumbai.”Yes they can make money from IPL (Indian Premier League) and make a fortune. But if they can keep the hunger up to compete in the highest form of the game, that is tests, they can dominate world cricket for a long time.”India now think they can beat anyone: WarneWarne, who was busy with commentary duties during India’s tour of Australia, also said India were outstanding during their first-ever Test series win in Australia. The pace trio of Ishant Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami were in fine form as India clinched a four-match series 2-1.”India in Australia this year was one of the best sides I have seen in a long long time to play the game. Australia are a good side even though they are not a great side now. In Australian conditions, they are tough to beat. The way India played; their bowlers, I know Ishant Sharma and Mohammed Shami bowled great but Bumrah was outstanding,” Warne said.advertisementWarne predicts India’s historic Test series win in Australia could prove to be a defining moment.”Yes they lost to England, to South Africa but after beating Australia, I think the penny has dropped. They now think they can beat anyone, anywhere in the world. That’s half the battle,” he observed.Crediting the Indian team management for calling the shots in team selections, Warne commented they deserve all the credit for setting the ball rolling.”When you think to what’s happened to India over the years, I have been coming to India for 25 years and the way now Ravi Shastri and Virat Kohli pick the team and the selectors report to them. So when you look about the structure, Ravi Shastri and Virat then deliver the message to the player. And they take it on board and are honest with it,” he said.I am huge fan of Virat Kohli: WarneAll praise for India’s captain, Warne sees little wrong in Virat’s in your face personality and aggression.”I am great friends with and huge fan of Virat Kohli. I love his emotions, which sometimes work to his detriment. But is that the worst thing you can do? I love his passion for the game,” he remarked.”India have figured out what they need, fielders, fast bowlers, the aggression they play with, their scoring rate; all these things that Australia used to do, India does it well now. It’s been a pleasure to see this Indian side evolve,” he said. Also Read | India vs Australia series at home a chance to give youngsters a go: Harbhajan SinghAlso Read | Matthew Hayden reacts to Sehwag’s babysitting ad: Never take the Aussies for a jokeAlso Read | Virat Kohli head and shoulders above the rest in world cricket today: Kumar SangakkaraAlso See:last_img read more
