Wisconsin Supreme Court asked to decide scope of agency power to regulate agriculture

first_imgShare Facebook Twitter Google + LinkedIn Pinterest By Evin Bachelor, Law Fellow, Ohio State University Extension Agricultural & Resource Law ProgramA Wisconsin court of appeals has certified two cases to the Wisconsin Supreme Court, asking the court to determine the extent of the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resource’s authority to regulate agriculture in order to protect groundwater.  A certification represents a lower court seeking guidance on an issue that the lower court believes it is not in the best position to decide without knowing what the higher court thinks. These cases are important for Wisconsin because they pertain to a law passed in 2011 that restrained authority of state agencies to act beyond express grants of authority by the state legislature.  Specifically, the cases ask whether the Wisconsin DNR can impose conditions on issuing a permit beyond the conditions stated in a statute.  The affected parties in the cases range from dairy farms to manufacturers and from food processors to municipal water utilities.Environmental groups hope that state agencies may take a more expansive look at environmental impacts when reviewing permit applications.  The two certification orders are available here and here.last_img read more

It also allows you to curate your own personalized, customized mini-search engines featuring content you curate yourself. (Note: We recently looked at this process in a post titled “How to Use Blekko to Rock at Your Job.”)Earlier this year, the startup announced that it’s using Facebook “likes” to help create personalized search experiences, where users can see whether or not any of their Facebook friends liked particular search results. This is similar to the functionality Microsoft’s Bing search engine just announced yesterday.Within Flipboard, however, blekko is providing the social magazine with access to its RSS feeds via a specially developed API (application programming interface), which offers a programmatic way for Flipboard to access Blekko’s content. This isn’t Flipboard’s first RSS feed integration, either. In December, the magazine added support for Google Reader, but, of course, this assumed that an end user was already using RSS feeds and had a collection of feeds ready for import. With Blekko, users don’t need to understand RSS technology, they only need to know what content they would like to see and perform a simple search. The blekko integration is live now in Flipboard’s iPad app. sarah perez Why Tech Companies Need Simpler Terms of Servic… Related Posts This morning, alternative search engine service blekko announced a partnership with hot iPad social magazine Flipboard to power its content searches. Under the new deal, users looking for new content to subscribe to within Flipboard can discover and browse for items by keyword. The content will come from RSS feeds, the Web feed format used to publish regularly updated news in a structured format. But unlike with traditional RSS readers, like Google Reader, for example, the feeds will not be displayed in the typical inbox-like view often associated with feed-reading services. Instead, the feeds will be displayed in Flipboard’s magazine-like format for a more visually attractive experience.RSS dead? Hardly.Of course, Flipboard is not the first startup to display RSS feeds in a more attractive visual layout. A number of startups have done the same, including Feedly, Pulse and Zite, to name just a few of the more recent entries. But Flipboard is one of the most popular social magazines for iPad at present, having just announced that it’s now seeing more than 10 million “flips per day,” up from 3 million just two months ago. (Flips equate to pageviews in the iPad application). It has also been featured in Apple’s “App Essentials Hall of Fame” in iTunes and is one of the 25 most popular free apps for iPad. Video Tutorial: The Best Lenses for Gimbal Cinematography

first_imgWhen it comes to gimbal cinematography, which lenses should you use for which shots? Learn to cover all your bases in this video tutorial. There is a variety of shots you can capture using a gimbal, and different lens choices yield different results. So which lenses should you use?Below, I’ve listed my top three go-to lenses for gimbal cinematography — with a note about cost. You’ll find that each lens serves a completely different purpose based on what you’re capturing. Let’s take a look. Establish the Space with a Wide AngleA 16-35 Canon or Sony wide angle lens is a great focal length for capturing grand establishing shots. This is perfect for event coverage or travel videography that requires developing a sense of scope.Canon (expensive)Image via Canon.Sony (expensive)Image via Sony.Tokina (Cheap)Image via Tokina.Versatility in Your Tool KitMy favorite go-to lens for gimbal work is my 18-105 G Series lens. This is perfect for run-and-gun filmmaking. If I need a wide shot, I can zoom out to a wide 18mm. Or, on the opposite end, I can zoom in and capture close details on a 70-105mm. Filming with a longer focal length on a gimbal creates some beautiful movement in the frame. Since you’re condensing the shot with more detail in the background and foreground, the gimbal movement becomes much more dynamic.SonyImage via Sony.CanonImage via Canon.Get Nifty with a 50:Using a 50mm portrait lens is also a great way to get cinematic coverage. If you don’t have follow-focus capabilities, just monitor the distance between your camera and your subject.CanonImage via Canon.SonyImage via Zy Optics.Looking for more video tutorials?
