first_imgThe Department of Biostatistics at the Johns Hopkins BloombergSchool of Public Health has openings for multiple remote-workfriendly Research Associate positions in biomedical data science.The Research Associate candidate will devote primary effort to datascience research and education focusing on genomics, cancer orpain. These positions are supported by three grants: The candidates will report to the PIs of the respective projectsand are not responsible for the direct supervision of staff. Thereis significant opportunity for cross-project work to ensure a richprofessional experience for the Research Associates. The A2CPS Project – a large-scale study of thetransition from acute to chronic pain that will collect data from3,600 people who have recently had surgery and track them for a6-month period. The goal is to develop a set of biomarkers, or“signatures”, that can predict whether a person will transition tochronic pain or be resilient. These signatures use measurements,including those from a patient’s genetics, genomics, inflammation,metabolic pathways, brain structure, and brain function. Thecandidate will be in charge of working with the longitudinal omicsdata collected during the study, including exRNA, genetic variants,proteomic, lipidomic, and metabolomic data. This includes creatingpipelines and workflows, evaluating data quality, creating trainingmaterials, analyzing data, and interacting with partner sites.The AnVIL Training Network which focuses on developinggenomic training material for data scientists to use the NHGRI’snew cloud computing platform: https://anvilproject.org/ . Thecandidate will be in charge of developing new training material,creating genomic data science workflows and pipelines for sharingwith the community, and collaborating with partner institutions andthe Genomic Data Science Community Network ( http://www.gdscn.org/ ) to ensureaccess to data science training across institutions ranging fromlarge R1 centers to Historically Black Colleges and Universities,Minority Serving Institutions, Tribal Colleges and CommunityColleges.The ITCR Training Network – which focuses on developingdata science training material focused on the ITCR program (https://itcr.cancer.gov/ )tools and technologies. The candidate will be focused on thedevelopment of scalable training materials focused on cancer datascience and working with partner institutions to deliver thesetraining materials to researchers around the US. The candidate willalso work with the ITCR Train the Trainers program to ensure thattraining is accessible to faculty at Historically Black Collegesand Universities, Minority Serving Institutions, Tribal Collegesand Community Colleges.
