Picture: Realestate.com.auJust over a quarter (26 per cent) of all first home buyers in Australia were from Queensland yet the number of loans to first home buyers in the state fell by 7.4 per cent.The average loan size to first home buyers was $291,367 — down 3.4 per cent over the quarter.The news isn’t as good for tenants in Queensland, with rental affordability declining slightly during the March quarter.The amount of income required to meet median rents in the state rose by half a per cent. First home buyers might be inclined to disagree, but one industry report has found housing is actually getting more affordable.The Housing Affordability Report, compiled by Adelaide Bank and the Real Estate Institute of Australia, shows an improvement in affordability nationally in the first quarter of this year.The findings are based on the amount of household income required to meet mortgage repayments.last_img read more

Southern Dredging Bags Wilmington Harbor Dredging Contract

first_imgThe U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Wilmington District, last week awarded a construction contract for the Wilmington Harbor Anchorage Basin maintenance dredging project.The $1,000,027 contract was awarded to Southern Dredging Co., Inc.According to the Corps, the work includes maintenance dredging of upper Wilmington Harbor federal navigation channel reaches including the Anchorage Basin, Between Channel, and the North Carolina State Ports Authority (NCSPA) berth areas and Turning Basin Extension.The work will consist of removal and disposal of shoaled material that has accumulated in the channels and berth areas since the various areas were last dredged. The work will require a hydraulic cutter suction dredge, reported USACE.The estimated quantity of material that will be dredged during the works is 1.4 million cubic yards.The environmental window for dredging the NCSPA berth areas is 1 October 2018 through 31 January 2019. Governor DeSantis in South Florida for Opening of Walk-Thru Testing Sites

first_imgGovernor Ron DeSantis announced yesterday that two walk-thru testing sites will open tomorrow in Fort Lauderdale and Pompano Beach. The sites will cater to those who don’t have cars, but it’s only for those showing symptoms who make an appointment.Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis announced Thursday that the sites would open at Mitchell Moore Park at 901 Northwest 10th Street in Pompano Beach and at the Urban League at 560 Northwest 27th Avenue in Fort Lauderdale.The sites will open for testing on Saturday and will start with 200 tests per day, DeSantis said.The governor will be in South Florida today for the opening of the new walk-through testing sites.During his Thursday briefing on the state’s response to the coronavirus pandemic, Gov. Ron DeSantis said he is visiting Broward County on Friday.DeSantis will be with Florida National Guard Adj. Gen. James Eifert and Jared Moskowitz, the director of the division of Emergency Management.DeSantis and his team is scheduled to arrive at 10 a.m. at the Urban League of Broward County, 560 NW 27th Ave., in Fort Lauderdale.Jen and Bill talked to Lt.
